The Dutch keeper Raimond van der Gouw became Alex Ferguson's first summer signing in 1996. He will replace Tony Coton who only was a member of the United Squad in 6 months. Van der Gouw started his professional career at Go Ahead Eagles before joining his former club Vitesse Arnhem.
Alex Ferguson says of van der Gouw: "Raimond is a very good keeper and
he will be a great backup. He knows he has to come to be number two after
Peter." Raimond is a very experienced goalkeeper. He has played 347 first
team games in Holland and has played for Holland's international youth
teams.
